Mission and Mandates

The mission of the SAAQ is to protect individuals against the risks inherent in use of the road and contribute to the enforcement of several laws and regulations.

This is our core mission. As part of its mission, the SAAQ also carries out other key mandates, including:

• administering Québec's public automobile insurance plan by compensating road accident victims and setting insurance contributions
• promoting road safety through awareness campaigns to improve Québec's road safety record
• monitoring and controlling road transportation of persons and property

Contributing to the enforcement of laws and regulations, including the Highway Safety Code

• We are responsible for enforcing the Highway Safety Code, the Automobile Insurance Act as well as a number of regulations. We also oversee the partial enforcement of 7 other laws.
