Laws and Regulations
A number of laws and regulations govern the SAAQ's activities, driving as well as road transportation of passengers and goods in Québec.
We are responsible for enforcing:
- the Automobile Insurance Act
- the Highway Safety Code
- the Act respecting the Société de l'assurance automobile du Québec
New provisions have been introduced by the Act to amend the Automobile Insurance Act, the Highway Safety Code and other provisions, which was adopted by the National Assembly. Learn more about these new provisions.
The SAAQ also oversees the partial enforcement of the following laws:
- the Act respecting owners, operators and drivers of heavy vehicles
- the Act respecting remunerated passenger transportation by automobile
- the Transport Act
- the Criminal Code (federal law)

Reduction of the regulatory and administrative burden
The Politique gouvernementale sur l’allègement réglementaire et administratif (in French only) prescribes mandatory publications regarding regulatory impact assessments, commitments to red tape reduction and the prepublication of new forms.
Draft Regulations
Draft regulations are published in the Gazette officielle du Québec so that individuals and organizations may examine and comment on them before they are adopted.
