About to head south? Be sure to registrer for SAAQclic before leaving!
If you are among the many Quebecers who will be staying down south this winter, here’s what we recommend you do before leaving.
If you haven’t done so already, we suggest that you create a SAAQclic account before leaving and choose to receive online communications in the “My Profile” section. That way, you can access your information and documents, even under the tropical sun!
You can use SAAQclic to:
- view a renewal notice, if you need your notice number to make your payment
- download and print a new copy of your registration certificate
- ask to be issued a replacement driver’s licence , or other document
- obtain a winter tire exemption certificate if you leave Québec after December 1 and intend to drive south on your summer tires (for more information, refer to the Winter Preparation Winter preparation page)
- store a vehicle or take a vehicle out of storage
Note that before you can carry out online operations regarding a co-owned vehicle, you must first designate one of the co-owners to be the vehicle registrant using the online form.
Things to take care of befort leaving
Some things require that you go to a service outlet before leaving. Refer to the points below and make an appointment as required.
- Note that up until the end of 2025, you don’t have to go to a service outlet to renew your plasticized driver’s licence with photo because the SAAQ will reuse the photo and signature it has on file . To receive your new licence while outside Québec, we suggest you ask someone you trust to mail it to you.
- You can pay your driver’s licence or vehicle registration renewal fees up to three months in advance in a service outlet. For more information about renewing your licence three months in advance, visit the Renewing your Driver’s Licence During a Stay Outside Québec page.
- If you would like your vehicle registration renewal notice and your new registration certificate to be sent to an address other than that of your principal residence, you can make the request at a service outlet. The temporary address can be outside Québec or that of a contact person you designate.
There you have it! Now you can take off for your sun destination with your mind at ease.
Drive safely if you plan to get behind the wheel and enjoy your time away!
