Clothing and Accessories
Québec's public automobile insurance plan provides for the reimbursement of certain expenses related to clothing and accessories that were damaged in a traffic accident.
What you should know
We can reimburse expenses incurred to clean, repair or replace clothing and certain accessories you were wearing at the time of your traffic accident.
Clothing
We reimburse a maximum of $466 to clean, repair or replace clothing you were wearing at the time of the accident.
If you were riding a motorcycle or a scooter in the accident, we reimburse a maximum of $1,164 for your helmet and protective clothing.
By “clothing worn at the time of the accident,” we mean clothing that is required to cover and protect the body, including seasonal clothing such as a winter coat, that was on you at the time of the accident.
Excluded clothing
- Clothing placed in a suitcase or travel bag located inside the vehicle or in the trunk
- Out-of-season clothing that was in your vehicle, such as a winter coat during the summer months.
Accessories
Contact lenses
We reimburse expenses incurred to replace the contact lenses you were wearing at the time of the accident, provided they were prescription lenses, up to a maximum of $128.
Eyeglasses
We reimburse expenses incurred to replace the eyeglasses you were wearing at the time of the accident, provided they were prescription eyeglasses:
- up to a maximum of $233 for the frames
- the actual cost of the lenses
Prostheses and orthoses
We can reimburse expenses incurred to purchase, repair or replace a prosthesis or an orthosis that was damaged or destroyed in the accident.

Excluded accessories
- Handbags and wallets
- Jewelry
- Sports equipment, e.g. skates, ski boots, etc.
- Sunglasses and eyeglasses obtained without a prescription
