Insurance Contributions for 2024-2025

For 2025, holders of a Class 5 (passenger vehicle) or 6 (motorcycle) driver’s licence—regular driver’s licence, probationary licence or restricted licence—will receive a payment holiday from the insurance contribution applicable to the issuance or renewal of a driver’s licence. They will only have to pay licence fees, administrative fees and the insurance contribution applicable to any accumulated demerit points.

For individuals who have no demerit points on their driving record, the total cost to renew a driver’s licence is therefore $26.25 for 2025, which represents savings of nearly $100. In the case of holders of both a Class 5 and 6 licence, their savings amount to over $180.

The payment holiday only applies to licences issued for a period of 12 months or longer.

This payment holiday from the insurance contribution is possible due to a decrease in the number of claims for compensation by accident victims since 2020, and sound management of Québec’s public automobile insurance plan.

This is the fourth consecutive year during which driver’s licence holders will benefit from a payment holiday.
