Insurance Contributions for 2025-2026

For 2026, holders of a Class 5 (passenger vehicle) or 6 (motorcycle) driver’s licence—regular driver’s licence, probationary licence or restricted licence—will receive a 75 % rebate on the insurance contribution applicable to the issuance or renewal of a driver’s licence. They will also have to pay licence fees, administrative fees and the insurance contribution applicable to any accumulated demerit points.

For individuals who have no demerit points on their driving record, the total cost to renew their driver’s licence in 2026 is therefore $50.23, which represents savings of over $70. In the case of holders of both a Class 5 and 6 licence, their savings amount to over $135.

The rebate only applies to licences issued for a period of 12 months or longer.

This rebate is possible due to a decrease in the number of claims for compensation by accident victims since 2020, and the superior performance of Québec’s automobile insurance fund.

A complete payment holiday from the insurance contribution was granted in 2022, 2023, 2024 and 2025.
