Le bonheur en scooter: educational toolkit (in French only)
Many teenagers are introduced to driving by becoming a moped or scooter rider. Their lack of experience can increase their risk of being involved in a traffic accident.
These findings led to the creation of LE BONHEUR EN SCOOTER awareness toolkit. This toolkit is for police departments interested in offering an educational activity to young moped and scooter riders in their region. It was developed in conjunction with the Sherbrooke police department.
Goal of the toolkit:
- Enable moped and scooter riders to increase their knowledge about operating their vehicle and hone their riding skills.
- Give young riders the opportunity to learn about road safety and discuss prevention with a police office.
This toolkit includes:
- a facilitator’s guide for the police officers who will be leading the activity;
- a PowerPoint presentation on safe riding practices;
- safety guidelines given to the participants that summarize key points riders should keep in mind when operating their moped or scooter;
- a parental consent letter template that police departments can adapt and use to inform parents about the activity and obtain their consent;
- a sample riding track that can be set up in the school parking lot;
- a checklist riders can use to make sure their moped or scooter meets safety standards and is fit for road use;
- reflective stickers to be distributed to participants after the activity.
