New Protective Gear Requirements for Motorcycle Training Sessions, Closed Track Tests and Road Tests

Student riders are now required to wear protective gear during practical training sessions given by their driving school and the SAAQ’s closed track and road tests.

Students must now wear the following protective gear during their practical training sessions, closed track tests and road tests:

  • a helmet that meets safety standards
  • a visor or protective goggles
  • a long-sleeved jacket or top
  • long pants
  • gloves
  • boots or closed-toe shoes

Students should wear a full-face helmet for increased protection and to make it easier to hear the examiner’s instructions during their closed track and road tests. They should also wear industry-approved and brightly coloured items of protective clothing made of leather or abrasion resistant material.

Closed track and road tests will be postponed if candidates report to their test without the mandatory protective gear.

Consult the Obtaining a Driver’s Licence section of our website for more information on how to obtain a motorcycle licence and the Motorcycle Safety section of our website for information on protective gear.
