Once you have returned to Québec, you may request a new licence if your current licence has been expired or cancelled for fewer than 3 years, or you can exchange your licence issued elsewhere in Canada or in another country for a Québec licence.
You may exchange this licence for a Québec licence without having to take the proficiency examinations if:
Step 1 – Schedule an appointment by telephone with a clerk, who will analyze your request

Step 3 – Pay the required fees for a licence exchange

If, upon your return to Québec, your driver's licence has been expired or cancelled for fewer than 3 years, you may obtain a new licence by going to one of our service outlets and paying the required fees.

You have to retake and pass the proficiency examinations (knowledge test and road tests) to obtain the requested class of licence.

Step 2 – Go to the service outlet that was designated when you scheduled your appointment to take the knowledge test, and then take the road test, if applicable
