Protecting your personal information
The Société de l’assurance automobile du Québec (SAAQ) does whatever is necessary to protect your personal information. You also play an important role. Find out how you can contribute to protecting your personal information.
Emails or text messages
The SAAQ never sends text messages or emails regarding:
- personal information in connection with your file;
- money transfers;
- payments.
Scammers could send text messages or emails in an attempt to obtain your personal information or money. These messages urge you to act quickly and use an official logo for greater credibility.
Have you received a suspicious email or text message from the SAAQ? Watch out for these red flags:
- unknown number;
- promise or request for money (e.g. payment, refund, etc.);
- request for your personal information;
- incentive to click on a link or open an email attachment.
Never click on links included in an email or text message and never provide them with your personal information.
Still not sure? Ask yourself these questions:
- Am I expecting a message from the SAAQ?
- Have I given my email address to the SAAQ?
- Do I owe the SAAQ any money?
- Am I being asked to provide information that the SAAQ already has?
- Does this situation seem too good to be true?
- Do I know the person who is asking for my personal information?
Contact us if necessary.
Telephone
Scammers use software or applications that falsify a company's name or telephone number.
Scammers could call you claiming that they work for the SAAQ or another government agency in order to obtain your personal information.
If you are unsure:
- Ask for the person’s telephone number and tell them you will call back.
- Call the official SAAQ number provided in the To reach us section of our website to check whether the call you received was actually from the SAAQ.
Website
Scammers could redirect you to a fake SAAQ website through a web search or a fraudulent link.
To avoid this:
- manually enter the official address of our website in the browser address bar or double check that address displayed is: saaq.gouv.qc.ca;
- make sure that the website connection is secure by looking in the browser address bar for these signs:
- the protocol is "https://" (not "http://");
- a closed padlock.
Online services
You have an important role in protecting your personal information when using our online services on SAAQclic or our website. You should:
- use a complex password;
- keep your username and password confidential;
- keep an eye on your device once you have logged in, and log off securely as soon as you finish using the services.
