What type of vehicle can be put into storage?
Motorcycles, recreational vehicles, convertibles, vintage cars and other seasonal vehicles are the types of vehicles most often put into storage.
- Note that trailers with an R licence plate do not need to be put into storage.
What are the advantages?
- Avoid paying the registration fees for the months the vehicle is not used
- Peace of mind with same-day or prescheduled storage
- In many cases, a partial reimbursement of your vehicle registration fees (based on the storage date, excluding the month the storage takes effect)
Motorcycle registration is already based on seasonal usage. To be eligible for a reimbursement, you must put your motorcycle into storage no later than September 30.
Where can stored vehicles be kept?
From the effective date of storage, you can no longer drive your vehicle. It must be stored in a garage or a lot, or on private property, but never on a public roadway. You must:
- leave the licence plate on the vehicle
- keep your registration certificate for when the vehicle is put back on the road
If your vehicle is in storage for more than 12 months, it must undergo a mechanical inspection by a road vehicle inspection agent authorized by the SAAQ before it can be put back into operation.
How?
