Driver’s licence issued outside Québec

• Your driver’s licence was issued in another Canadian jurisdiction
   

Proof of permanent resident status

One of the following documents:

• a permanent resident card
• confirmation of permanent residence (print version if received electronically) and one of the following documents:
  • a passport
  • an immigrant visa
• a letter from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada confirming permanent resident status (preferably print version), along with one of the following documents:
  • a passport
  • an immigrant visa
• Record of Landing (IMM 1000) and a passport, if indicated in box 11 of the Record

Proof of residency in Québec

One of the following documents:

• a valid Québec health insurance card or confirmation from the Régie de l’assurance maladie du Québec
• confirmation of enrolment in a program of study offered by an educational institution in Québec for the current semester or a future semester
• a paper or electronic invoice or statement from a telephone, power or cable company, a municipal or school tax bill or statement, or a bank or credit card statement
• confirmation from a Québec employer that you are currently working in Québec
• a document confirming that you are receiving last-resort assistance from the Québec government (your monthly statement called Déclaration mensuelle from the Ministère du Travail, de l’Emploi et de la Solidarité sociale, or other document)
• your Québec Selection Certificate
• your Québec Acceptance Certificate

Proof that you were a resident in the jurisdiction that issued your licence

If you obtained your licence from another Canadian province or territory within the previous three years or if your foreign licence was issued after the document that proves your right to stay in Canada, you may be asked to provide one of the following documents:

• a health insurance card issued by the Canadian province or territory that issued the driver’s licence you wish to exchange
• confirmation of enrolment in a program of study offered by an educational institution in the jurisdiction that issued your driver’s licence
• a paper or electronic invoice or statement from a telephone, power or cable company, or a bank or credit card statement;
• a municipal or school tax bill or statement;
• a notice of assessment (income tax);
• a letter from a Canadian military base commander confirming that you are the spouse or child of a member of the Canadian military based outside Québec. The military base must be located in the jurisdiction where your licence was issued.

The document must show that you were a resident of the jurisdiction that issued your licence for at least six months.

Translation

You must have your documents translated into French or English. The official translation must be produced or authenticated by an embassy, consulate or a member of one of the following:

• the Ordre des traducteurs, terminologues et interprètes agréés du Québec c (OTTIAQ.org⁠⁠ ⁠)
• the Association of Legal Court Interpreters and Translators (atij.ca⁠ ⁠⁠)
• an association that is a member of the Canadian Translators, Terminologists and Interpreters Council (CTTIC.org⁠⁠ ⁠)

Start over
