Once you have built your trailer, you must have it weighed on a scale. Transportation companies, quarries and dumps, among other places, can provide such a scale.
You will receive a weight certificate, which specifies the net weight of your hand-crafted trailer. The weight must be printed—not handwritten—on the document.
You will need to present this document at the time of registration if the net weight does not appear on other documents.
Road use with your trailer
Since the trailer is not yet registered, it is not authorized for road use.
Therefore, to have it weighed or to have it undergo a mechanical inspection, you must have it transported, since it cannot be towed on a public road.
If the trailer's gross vehicle weight ratingA vehicle's weight, including its maximum load capacity, according to the manufacturer's specifications. is 4,500 kg or more and you use it for commercial or employment-related purposes, you must be registered in the register of owners and operators of heavy vehicles of the Commission des transports du Québec.
