Driver's Licence for Heavy Vehicles

To be authorized to drive a heavy vehicle, a driver must hold the appropriate class of licence and be in good health.

A heavy vehicle is…

  • A road vehicle with a gross vehicle weight ratingA vehicle's weight, including its maximum load capacity, according to the manufacturer's specifications. (GVWR) of 4,500 kg or more
  • A combination of road vehicles with a gross combination weight rating of 4,500 kg or more
  • A tow truck
  • A road vehicle transporting dangerous substances requiring the display of safety marks
  • A bus
  • A minibus

Alcohol: 0.5 mg for drivers of heavy vehicles

It is prohibited to drive or have the care or control of a heavy vehicle with a blood alcohol concentration equal to or higher than 50 mg of alcohol per 100 mg of blood (0.05).

If you drive a bus or a minibus, it's zero alcohol.
