Students and Trainees Who Are Not Residents of Québec: Special Measures Apply to You!

If you are a student or trainee who is not a resident of Québec, you may drive for the entire duration of your studies or traineeship with your foreign licence. Certain conditions apply.

What you should know

If you are a student or trainee in Québec and you are a non-resident, you are allowed to drive for the duration of your studies or traineeship with your foreign driver's licence, provided the licence is valid.

Vehicles you are authorized to drive

You may drive an automobile, a motorcycle or a moped or scooterA 2- or 3-wheel passenger vehicle equipped with an electric motor or a gasoline-powered engine with a cylinder capacity of no more than 50 cc and an automatic transmission., if your driver's licence allows you to drive such vehicles.

International driver's permit

If your driver's licence is not written in French or English, we recommend that you get an international driver's permit before coming to Québec. The international driver's permit is only issued in the country in which you obtained your driver's licence.
