If you are found guilty of one of these offences, you will be assessed a fine.

List of fines based on offences

Additional fees are added to the fine, such as registry fees, subject to change, under the Tariff of court costs in penal matters, as well as a contribution to IVAC (crime victims compensation program).

General public

Fines

Standing, holding or hanging onto on a moving vehicle, being pushed or pulled by one, or tolerating such actions (car surfing)

Holding or hanging onto a power-assisted bicycle, or being pushed or pulled by a power-assisted bicycle

From $300.00 to $500.00

Reckless driving endangering the lives and safety of others

Street racing

Number of passengers exceeds number of seatbelts

Number of passengers in the front seat greater than the number permitted

Driver of a bus or minibus used for school transportation

Following a revocation due to an accumulation of:

  • 4 demerit points or more, for holders of a learner's licence or probationary licence
  • 8 demerit points or more, for holders of a driver's licence under age 23
  • 12 demerit points or more, for holders of a driver's licence age 23 or 24
  • 15 demerit points or more, for holders of a driver's licence age 25 and older
