Here are the costs related to impaired driving.

Costs related to a first offence for driving while impaired by alcohol or drugs

These fees are subject to change and do not include any applicable taxes. Other fees and costs may apply in addition to those listed below, such as court fees, crime victims compensation contributions (IVAC), etc.

Program to assess and reduce the risk of impaired driving - Summary assessment, risk assessment or initial assessment$351.00 
Program to assess and reduce the risk of impaired driving - Comprehensive assessment (if the summary assessment is unfavourable)$830.70

Alcofrein program (if the summary assessment is favourable)$150.00
Alcohol ignition interlock device - Installation fees$165.00 to $350.00 
Alcohol ignition interlock device - Monthly rental fees$69.99

Costs to obtain a new licence (additional insurance contribution depending on whether it is a first, second, third or subsequent offence within 10 years)$420.00 to $560.00

Total cost of a first offence: A minimum of $5,000.00, in addition to the following numerous inconveniences and variable expenses:

  • criminal record
  • legal fees
  • increased personal automobile insurance premiums
  • other costs such as court fees, crime victim’s compensation contributions (IVAC), etc.
