Each year, approximately 30% of passenger vehicle occupants killed in traffic accidents were not wearing their seat belts. This figure is even higher—41%—for backseat passengers.
The 2017 campaign —“Always buckle up.”—aims to remind people how important it is to always wear a seat belt. It is a simple step that can save lives in case of an accident.
Wearing a seat belt reduces by half the risk of being killed or seriously injured in an accident. If all Quebecers buckled up, 35 deaths could be avoided and 85 fewer people would be seriously injured every year.
Every year, on average:
These accidents occur in greater proportion on weekends, between 8:00 p.m. and 4:00 a.m.
