Awareness Campaigns

2011 Cyclists Campaign

Bicycle safety

To promote bicycle safety, awareness activities were conducted again as part of the 2011 campaign, with the help of our partners.

The SAAQ, working with police officers and Vélo-Sécur patrollers

In May and June 2011, police officers and Vélo-Sécur patrollers rode along bicycle paths to raise awareness among cyclists about the importance of wearing a helmet and obeying safety rules.

To assist them in their efforts, they were given the Safe Cycling Guide (PDF, 1.2 MB) and the Let's All Share the Road… Safely (PDF, 598 KB) leaflet.

Les énigmes de Génivélo: a kit for young cyclists aged 7 to 12

A kit entitled Les énigmes de Génivélo was provided to police officers free of charge for their awareness activities with children aged 7 to 12.

The Tour du Silence (Ride of Silence)

To commemorate cyclists who were killed or injured on the road, we cooperated once again with the Fédération québécoise des sports cyclistes for the Tour du Silence (Ride of Silence).

This silent bicycle ride is held every year, on the third Wednesday in May, at many locations around the world. This event reminds cyclists about basic safety rules and makes motorists aware of the vulnerability of cyclists.

Summer-long concerted actions to promote sharing the road

All summer long, Vélo Québec and its partners conducted a campaign on sharing the road.

The SAAQ and the Ministère des Transports du Québec were major partners: Other partners included:

  • the Ministère de la Santé et des Services sociaux
  • CAA-Québec
  • the Société de transport de Montréal
  • the Société de transport de Laval
  • the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal
  • several municipalities in Québec
