Hand-Crafted Vehicles

Hand-crafted vehicles must be authorized for road use by the SAAQ.

What is a hand-crafted vehicle?

A vehicle built or assembled by an individual for personal use and corresponding to one of the following cases:

  • the chassis and the body do not belong to the same production model
  • the vehicle is a kit car; parts of the chassis (with or without the frame) come from a same production model, but the body was manufactured or built by an individual
  • the vehicle was designed by its builder and contains few parts belonging to production vehicles

Before building a vehicle

It is recommended that you consult the following documents:

Discuss your project with us before carrying it out

If the vehicle that you wish to build resembles a vehicle that you have seen before on Québec roads (e.g. Cobra replica or three-wheeled vehicle), you will probably be able to carry out your project and access the road network.

If this is not the case – or if you have any doubts – contact us to avoid unpleasant surprises when the time comes to register your vehicle:
