Licensing a Stored Vehicle

When you take a vehicle out of storage to use it again, you first have to license it for road use.

Important: Licensing a stored vehicle must be carried out on the same day you wish to use the vehicle. You cannot use this service in advance.

Before you start

Have on hand:

  • the most recent registration certificate for the stored vehicle to be licensed for road use
  • your credit card (VISA or MasterCard), or a cheque to enter your banking information

Online service hours

Monday through Saturday, from 7:30 a.m. to 11:00 p.m.

Sunday, from noon to 11:00 p.m.

Important: Any operation completed after 11:00 p.m. will not be recorded.

Who can use this online service?

Individuals who want to license their stored vehicle in order to use it again.

Important information

When licensing a stored vehicle

Regardless of the day of the month, you are required to pay the registration fees for that entire month as well as for the months that remain until the renewal due date.

If the vehicle has been stored for more than 12 months

You cannot license it for road use through this online service.

Here is the procedure to follow:

Step 1 – Have the vehicle undergo a mechanical inspection by one of our agents, at the owner's expense.

Step 2 – Bring a valid mechanical inspection certificate to one of our service outlets.

If you want to license a stored vehicle for road use and store another one on the same day

To avoid having to pay registration fees twice for the same month, follow these steps:

Step 1 – Store the first vehicle.

Step 2 – License the second vehicle for road use and pay the full cost of registration for the current month.
