Making an Appointment for a Driving Test – Automobiles (Class 5)

You can make an appointment online for a knowledge or road test to obtain a Class 5 driver's licence.

You may now make an appointment in July or August. As of July 28, other appointments will become available for September.

Please note that availability may be limited at certain service outlets, as appointments that were cancelled in the last few months have had to be rescheduled.

A Class 5 licence authorizes its holder to drive:

  • an automobile
  • a motor home, also known as a recreational vehicle (RV)
  • a tool vehicle, such as a grader or loader
  • a service vehicle, such as a tow truck

A Class 5 licence also authorizes its holder to drive:

  • a moped or scooter (Class 6D)
  • a farm tractor (Class 8)

To make an appointment for a knowledge or road test to obtain a Class 5 driver's licence, you must be at least 16 years of age.

On the day of the test

Have on hand:

Approximate duration of the tests

Knowledge test: 1 hour

Road test: 30 minutes

To prepare for tests to obtain a new licence or exchange your driver's licence, you can purchase the Road Access Binder from the Association québécoise des transports (AQTr) or at recognized driving schools. The list of schools is available on the AQTr's Web site.
