Checking the Validity of a Driver's Licence

You can check the validity of a driver's licence using our online services.

This online service provides information about:

  • the validity of a driver's licence
  • the class or classes of a driver's licence
  • where applicable, licence conditions I, W, X or Y that could result in vehicle seizure, and endorsements

Although failure to comply with the other licence conditions does not necessarily result in vehicle seizure, you can also check directly on the back of the licence to know whether the holder is subject to specific conditions due to his or her state of health.

Please note that, for privacy protection, the result of the request for information does not include any names, addresses or personal information about the holder of the driver's licence.

Before you start

Have on hand:

  • the driver's licence number to be checked
  • your credit card (Visa or MasterCard)

Who can use this service?

Anyone who wants to lend or rent a vehicle to another person, to avoid having their vehicle seized.


A $1.75 fee per consultation will be charged to your credit card.

You can also check the validity of a driver's licence by calling 1 900 565-1212. The $1.75 fee per consultation will be added to your telephone bill. Please note that this service unavailable in the following cases:

  • collect calls
  • calls billed to a third telephone number
  • calls made with a calling card (service providers must give their authorization)
  • calls made from a public telephone
  • calls made from a hotel, motel or other establishment (e.g. hospital) that requires the assistance of an operator
  • calls made from a cell phone
  • calls made from outside Québec
  • calls from a business or home where 900 services have been blocked on request

For businesses that want to check the validity of more than 5 licences, we recommend that you submit a request by email.

To use the SAAQ’s online services, you must enable cookies in your browser.

Monday through Saturday, from 7:30 a.m. to 11:00 p.m.

Sunday, from noon to 11:00 p.m.

Important: Any operation completed after 11:00 p.m. will not be recorded.
