2026 Season – Motorcycles, mopeds and scooters and three-wheeled motorcycles: Protective clothing is mandatory

It is now mandatory to wear protective clothing while on a moped or scooter or three-wheeled motorcycle during practical training lessons at a driving school, whether on a closed track or on the road.

Since 2025, motorcyclists were already required to wear protective clothing during lessons given by driving schools on closed tracks and on the road, including during road tests on closed tracks and at SAAQ service centres.

You must now wear the following protective clothing:

  • a helmet that meets safety standards
  • a visor or protective goggles
  • a long-sleeved jacket or top
  • long pants
  • gloves
  • boots or closed-toe shoes

For even greater safety, it is recommended that you wear a full-face helmet and industry-approved, brightly coloured protective clothing made of leather or abrasion-resistant material.

The SAAQ’s motorcycle road tests

Closed track and road tests will be postponed if candidates report to their test without the mandatory protective gear.
