Alcohol Ignition Interlock Device for Life for Repeat Impaired-Driving Offenders

A new road safety measure aiming to combat impaired driving comes into effect today. Individuals who are found guilty of a second offence committed as of November 25, 2019 will be required to drive only vehicles equipped with an alcohol ignition interlock device for the rest of their lives.

This measure is an addition to the multiple penalties for impaired driving that are provided for under the Highway Safety Code and the Criminal Code.
