To reacquire the licence, you must pass the proficiency examinationsProficiency examinations allow the SAAQ to check the knowledge and skills of drivers. They include both knowledge and road tests and differ based on the class of driver's licence. They are almost always mandatory when an individual wants to obtain a licence for the first time. (knowledge and road tests) for the class of licence you wish to reacquire.

Procedure to obtain a new licence

Step 1 – Schedule an appointment for the proficiency examinations


Making an Appointment for a Road Test

Step 2 – Go to the service outlet that was designated when you scheduled your appointment to take the knowledge test, and then take the road test, if applicable

Step 3 – Pay the test fees

  • kowledge test, all classes: $12.40
  • road tests:
    • Class 1, 2 or 3: $12.40 (pre-trip inspection) and $61.75 (driving a heavy vehicle)
    • class 5: $31.00
    • class 6: $31.00 (closed track road test) and $111.00 (road test)

Step 4 – Pay the licence fees (if you passed the tests)
