Foreign Driver's Licence

Warning

EXCHANGING A LICENCE ISSUED IN ANOTHER JURISDICTION FOR A QUÉBEC LICENCE

New residents whose appointments were cancelled as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic will now be able to resume the licence exchange process. However, new licence exchange requests are not being processed at this time. Our priority for the moment to contact people whose March, April or May appointments were cancelled in order to reschedule.

To find out when it will once again be possible for anyone to schedule an appointment in order to exchange a licence, please refer regularly to the list of services offered in service outlets.

Holders of a foreign licence are allowed to drive on Québec roads for 6 consecutive months. After that time, they must hold an international driving permit, or, if they take up residence in Québec, they must obtain a Québec licence. They may apply for a Québec licence as soon as they arrive in Québec.
