          Driving Outside of Québec

Here are some rules to follow and things to know before you leave Québec, whether you will be away for a long or short time, and whether you will be on a business trip or on vacation.

          • Class 5 driver’s licence holders who drive commercial vehicles in the United States

Drivers who hold only a passenger vehicle driver’s licence (Class 5 in Québec) and who drive a commercial vehicle in the United States as part of their employment duties are required to meet the medical standards developed by the Canadian Council of Motor Transport Administrators.

          • International Driving Permit

You must hold an international driving permit if you are from another country and are staying in Québec for more than 6 months.

          • Renewing your driver’s licence during your stay outside Québec

You can renew your driver’s licence before you leave for your temporary stay outside Québec, or while you are away.
